Ultimate guide to user passwords

Reset your password (for users)

If you're having trouble signing in to Award Force, resetting your password only takes a few minutes.

  1. Enter your email address on your program’s login page
  2. On the next screen, click Forgot password
  3. Follow the prompts and click Send

A confirmation message will appear when your request is submitted. Within minutes, you will receive a one-click login link by email.

This link:

  • Expires after 2 hours
  • Can only be used once

If you don’t receive the message, see the troubleshooting section below.

Why haven't I received my 'Forgot password' email?

If your password reset link hasn’t arrived, the most common reasons are:

  • A spelling error or incorrect mobile number was entered
  • The email has been routed to your junk or spam folder
  • A firewall or security filter blocked delivery

If the information entered is correct and the message is not in junk/spam, reach out to the program organisers. Their contact details are usually displayed on the login page.

Assign a new password

Once you’ve accessed your account:

  1. Click your name in the top-right corner
  2. Select Profile
  3. Assign a new 12-character password containing:
    • Uppercase letters
    • Lowercase letters
    • A number
    • A symbol
  4. Click Save

If you do not set a new password, your previous password remains active. The 'Forgot password' link only generates a temporary login link—it does not automatically update your password.

For managers

Can I update a user’s password?

Yes. Program managers can update a user’s login, provided the email or mobile number is not already associated with another Award Force account. To learn more, see: Why have the same user login for multiple programs?

To update a user’s password:

  1. In the Manage workspace, go to Users
  2. Click the user’s name
  3. Enter a new 12-character password (uppercase, lowercase, number, symbol)
  4. Confirm the password
  5. Click Save

For security, we recommend sending the user a password-set link instead of updating it manually.

Can I send users a password link?

Yes. You can send users a password-set link using a broadcast (available on the Plus plan and above).

  1. In the Manage workspace, go to Users
  2. Search for the user(s)
  3. Click Broadcast
  4. Compose your message and include the {password_set_url} merge field
  5. Click Review + send

Use case: sending login links to judges

After importing judges, you can send them a password-set link so they can log in for the first time.

If judging panels or assignments are already configured

  1. In the Manage workspace, go to Judging > Progress
  2. Choose the relevant score set
  3. Click Broadcast
  4. Include the {password_set_url} merge field and password instructions
  5. Click Review + send

If judging panels or assignments are not configured

  1. In the Manage workspace, go to Users
  2. Open Advanced search
  3. Set the Role filter to Judge
  4. Click Search
  5. Click Broadcast
  6. Include the {password_set_url} merge field and password instructions
  7. Click Review + send

Judges will receive a login link allowing them to access the system and set their password.

Can I override the temporary authentication lock?

No. If a user attempts to log in with incorrect credentials multiple times, they may be temporarily locked out. This lock protects against bot or spam activity and cannot be overridden.

The user should wait 30 minutes and try again.

Password link expiry

Password link type Trigger Expiry
Forgot password User clicks Forgot password on the login page. 2 hours or 1 click
Reset password User selects Reset password in My Award Force 2 hours
Password set URL merge field Broadcast using the {password_set_url} merge field 1 week
Invited user User is invited and creates their profile 1 year

Password length requirements

By default, passwords must be at least 12 characters, including uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

Organisations on the Premier subscription can increase the minimum password length.

To update this setting:

  1. In the Manage workspace, go to Settings > General > Account
  2. Scroll to 'Security options'
  3. Enter a Minimum password length (must be greater than 12)
  4. Click Save
