Assignments and their common uses

When you begin judging, you must link judges to entries for evaluation. These judge–entry pairings are called assignments.

You can view all assignments in the Manage workspace under Judging > Settings > Assignments.

This includes assignments created via:

Create assignments using panels

Panels are the most common way to create assignments. A panel determines:

  • Who judges
  • Which entries they judge
  • When judging is available

Panels allow you to assign judges to entries in bulk, typically by category, chapter, or tag. When you create a panel, assignments are automatically generated.

For full configuration steps, see the guide: Create a judging panel.

Create assignments manually

Manual assignments allow you to pair judges with entries individually. This method is useful when:

  • Only specific entries need assigning
  • Exceptions to panel logic are required

See the guide: Manual assignments.

Create assignments using random allocation

Random assignments allow you to:

  • Assign a set number of entries per judge
  • Assign a set number of judges per entry

This avoids creating pairings manually.

See the guide: Random assignments.

View entries assigned to a specific judge

  1. In the Manage workspace, go to Judging > Settings > Assignments
  2. Click Advanced
  3. Use the Judge filter to select a specific judge
  4. Click Search

The results will show all entries assigned to that judge.

View which entries have assignments

Under Judging > Entry assignments in the Manage workspace, you'll see a list of all entries with dedicated columns for each score set. These columns show the total number of assignments the entry has in that score set.

  • A dash (—): no assignments for that entry in the score set
  • A number (for example, "1 of 5"): manual or random assignments have paired this entry with judges
  • "RBP": the panel is role-based and will increase as users with the assigned role access the platform
  • A combination (for example, "3 of RBP / 1 of 5"): the entry has both role-based pairings and manual or random assignments
  • Voting score sets will display the number of votes on the entry
  • Galleries will display the number of judges assigned to the panel

Good to know

  • Assignments are created automatically when panels are saved.
  • Individual assignments created via panels cannot be deleted directly. To remove a panel-based assignment, remove the judge from the panel.
  • Manual and random assignments can be deleted individually.
