Assignments and their common uses

When you begin judging, you must link judges to entries for evaluation. These judge–entry pairings are called assignments.

You can view all assignments in the Manage workspace under Judging > Settings > Assignments.

This includes assignments created via:

Create assignments using panels

Panels are the most common way to create assignments. A panel determines:

  • Who judges
  • Which entries they judge
  • When judging is available

Panels allow you to assign judges to entries in bulk, typically by category, chapter, or tag. When you create a panel, assignments are automatically generated.

For full configuration steps, see the guide: Create a judging panel.

Create assignments manually

Manual assignments allow you to pair judges with entries individually. This method is useful when:

  • Only specific entries need assigning
  • Exceptions to panel logic are required

See the guide: Manual assignments.

Create assignments using random allocation

Random assignments allow you to:

  • Assign a set number of entries per judge
  • Assign a set number of judges per entry

This avoids creating pairings manually.

See the guide: Random assignments.

View entries assigned to a specific judge

  1. In the Manage workspace, go to Judging > Settings > Assignments
  2. Click Advanced
  3. Use the Judge filter to select a specific judge
  4. Click Search

The results will show all entries assigned to that judge.

Good to know

  • Assignments are created automatically when panels are saved.
  • Individual assignments created via panels cannot be deleted directly. To remove a panel-based assignment, remove the judge from the panel.
  • Manual and random assignments can be deleted individually.
